Regenerative Medicine

Your Health is our top priority!

Regenerative Medicine Treatment

Regenerative medicine is an interdisciplinary field of medicine. It is the process of replacing and regrowing cells and tissues to restore normal bodily function. Regenerative medicine includes platelet rich plasma and stem cell procedures.

For platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections, the patient’s own blood is used to separate platelets in a centrifuge. The platelets are then re-injected into the injured area, releasing growth factors that promote natural healing.

Stem cell is an entirely different procedure which harvests undifferentiated cells or “baby” cells from the patient’s own bone marrow. This is typically taken from the patient’s hip and the marrow is placed in a centrifuge to obtain mesenchymal stem cells.

These cells can be used to treat more serious or chronic injuries such as joint osteoarthritis. Once injected, stem cells follow inflammatory signals from damaged tissues and can differentiate into the type of cell needed to help restore or replace injured cells.

Platelet Rich Plasma

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a non-surgical procedure that provides long-lasting relief for most musculoskeletal conditions. PRP is known to have many benefits in treating pain and providing a healing process to injuries.

This procedure boosts the healing process of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints.  PRP enhances the growth factors released by platelets to recruit reparative cells. It also helps augment tissue repair and accelerate the healing process of affected areas.

To use a gardening metaphor, PRP would be considered the fertilizer for your lawn, it helps boost the healing process.

Stem Cell

Stem Cell treatment is minimally invasive and one of the most innovative procedures that uses mesenchymal cells in treating sports injuries, chronic joint pain and damaged soft tissue. Continuing with the gardening metaphor, if PRP is like adding fertilizer then stem cell is like placing new seeds.

Mesenchymal stem cells are able to differentiate into new tissue and coordinate a repair response. Therefore, stem cell therapy is more appropriate for severe injuries or degenerative disease where there is a loss of tissue such as arthritis, torn tendon or ligament, or spinal disc disease.

Whether it is a platelet rich plasma or a stem cell procedure, regenerative medicine can help treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. It can help alleviate pain and discomfort caused by osteoarthritis, tendinopathies, ligament injuries, and other musculoskeletal condition.

The Angel® System Machine

At Advanced Sports & Spine, our Regenerative Medicine procedures starts with collecting blood and/or bone marrow samples from the patient. We use the Angel® System to produce the concentration of substance needed for treatment. The concentration of blood products depend on the kind of procedure to be performed. Whether it is a platelet rich plasma or a stem cell procedure, our aim is to prevent if not delay a surgical procedure.

The Angel® System is a fully automated technology that has the capacity to deliver platelet concentrations with adjustable leukocyte concentration. This machine uses 3-sensor technology (3ST) that can be configured to customize PRP formulations.

At Advanced Sports & Spine, for all regenerative procedures we use the patient’s own blood and follow FDA minimal manipulation guidelines.
