Have you ever been injured while playing sports?
Injuries during sports are a common thing. They could just be accidents or due to poor sporting equipment, bad training tactics or flawed techniques.
You should however not take injuries for granted because they could cause you unbearable pain or even in worst cases, bring your sporting career to a halt.

Below are some of the most common sports injuries:
1. Knee injuries
They are the most common sports injury and account for 55% of all sports injuries and 25% of the most treated conditions. At extreme movements during sports, the kneecap repeatedly moves against the leg bone. This movement causes pain because it damages the kneecap tissues.
2. Shoulder injuries
They comprise 20% of sports injuries. These injuries happen a lot in overhead movements and include sprains, strains, and dislocations. They occur when the rotator cuff is overused. Symptoms include pain, weakness, slipping off the shoulder and stiffness.
3. Ankle Sprain
It involves tearing and twisting of the ligaments. This causes a lot of pain.
4. Tennis or Golf Elbow
They account for 7% of sports injuries. These injuries occur due to a lot of backhand strokes which cause tendon degeneration. Tennis elbow occurs on the outside of the elbow while golf elbow attacks the inside but could also radiate to the outside.
5. Muscle Pull
It happens a lot when you don’t warm up before an exercise session. Some of the leading causes of muscle pull are lack of flexibility, weakness, and fatigue. They mainly attack the hamstrings and cause lots of pain and bruising.
6. Lower Back Pain
These are injuries caused by improper stretching, and in athletes, it happens when one leg is slightly longer than the other.
7. Shin Splint
This pain is caused by the inflammation of the muscles that surround the shin. It happens when you increase your exercise intensity rapidly.
8. Groin Strain
It involves swelling, bruising and sharp pain on the inside of the thigh. When you quickly change directions during a sporting activity like running, you are likely to get this kind of injury.
9. Concussion
They happen a lot in contact sports. It is damage to the brain that is caused by a tremendous impact to the head. Symptoms include dizziness, nausea, loss of balance and difficulty in concentration.
10. Achilles Tendinitis
It happens when the tendons at the back of the ankle are overused. This strain causes a lot of pain and an inflammation of the tendon. If left untreated, the pain may worsen making it difficult to run.
